No More Letter of the Week

Updated: Mar 7

"Doing away with letter of the week and standardized curriculums frees us up to follow what is important to children and their worlds." ~ Stacy Benge, The Whole Child Alphabet: How Young Children Actually Develop Literacy (Exchange Press)

Why no letter of the week? Children don't learn the alphabet by us introducing and teaching the letters. They learn the letters when they are relevant and important to their world. When the letter serves a purpose in their lives, they will learn it.
