Why does a toddler need to read?

I have seen it advertised on all social media platforms - programs that teach your toddler to read. Why? Why do we need to do that?

Reading is a process that builds on so many foundational skills that take time to develop. Skipping these steps does not respect that process and will not get your child ahead. It just gives the illusion the child is reading while ignoring the fundamentals of language and literacy.

So, instead of buying gimmick programs that claim to teach your young child to read, let them play. A lot! All the time! Child-led play is the surest way to build the strong foundations children need to be successful readers in the future when the time is right for them!
